How to choose your hammock - and your hat

Our hammocks and hats are handmade by native artisans in Ecuador and Mexico. This guide will help you pick the right hammock and the right hat size.

Inca vs. Mayan hammocks

Inca hammocks are handwoven in Otavalo, Ecuador, in the Inca tradition. They feature colorful stripes and tribal patterns in a tight weave. They look decorative even when you're not in them and give a cozy, cocooning lay — a pop of color for the porch, the garden, or a reading nook.

Mayan hammocks are handwoven in Yucatán, Mexico, in the Mayan tradition. They use an open, net-style weave that breathes in hot weather for a classic, airy hammock feel.

Choose Inca for bold color and coziness; choose Mayan for maximum airflow.

Measuring for your hammock

Measure your space before you buy. The total length of a hammock includes the bed plus the ropes and arms on each end, so your two anchor points need to be at least that far apart — with a little extra room so the hammock can hang with a gentle sag. Make sure your trees, posts, wall anchors, or stand are sturdy and rated for the hammock's weight capacity.

Hat sizing and care

To find your size, measure around your head just above your eyebrows and ears, then match your measurement to the size on the product page. Our hats come in sizes S–XL. If you are between sizes, check the product page's size guidance for that hat before ordering, and contact the store if the guidance is unclear — do not guess.

Care: Handle your hat by the brim rather than the crown. Keep toquilla straw Panama hats and wool felt fedoras dry, let them air out after wearing, and store them in a cool, dry place out of direct sun.
